PARIS, Ark. — An inmate who escaped from an Arkansas jail found his way to a local bar before ordering a beer and turning himself in, The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.

Tired, dirty and covered in insect bites, 45-year-old Shaun Higham told the bar’s owner to call the police. While waiting, he enjoyed his beverage.

Several minutes later, police entered the bar and the escapee surrendered without incident.

“He was very cooperative and apologetic,” Logan County Sheriff Boyd Hicks said in a Facebook post.
