BOONE, N.C. — An Appalachian State University student died after being found in distress Friday night at a home in Boone, according to police.
Boone police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Michael C. Schmitt. A cause of death has not been released.
Police said they were called to a home in the 300 block of Yosef Drive in Boone at about 9:15 p.m. Fire and emergency workers also responded.
The victim died after being taken to an area hospital, according to police.
Police have not released details on the circumstances leading up to the incident, but did say that there is currently no sign of foul play. The investigation is ongoing.
The victim is the ninth student this academic year at App State to die, according to WCNC. Foul play has not been suspected in any of the cases.
