CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Forty-eight people are displaced after an early-morning apartment fire in Charlotte.

WSOC-TV reported that the Charlotte Fire Department was called to the Edge Apartment complex on Campus Edge Circle just after 2 a.m Saturday.

“I walked outside because I heard sirens going, and I saw smoke coming off the building, and I was just being nosey and walked over there and looked and by the time I got over there the whole roof was gone,” said Chandar Perry, a UNCC student.

“I was just scared. Nothing like that happens in here. It’s pretty quiet around here and stuff, and I did not think that was what I was going to see when I walked outside,” Perry continued.

The American Red Cross will provide food, shelter and clothing to anyone who needs them.

Fire Department officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
