THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Investigators said an apartment building that caught fire Wednesday night in Thomasville was set on purpose.

The fire started around 7 p.m. at a building on Main Street near Elliot Street. No arrests have been made, as Thomasville Police are still trying to figure out suspects.

Someone who used to live in the building said nobody had lived there for quite some time.

“The flames got pretty high,” said Thomas Davis, witness. “They got higher than the trees did. You should have seen how big the smoke was out there. I mean the smoke was high.”

Firefighters said it’s too early to estimate the damage to the building, but it’s believed to be a complete loss.
