KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — Amazon has confirmed it will open a fulfillment center in Kernersville in 2020.

“The site will employ 1,000 full-time employees, with industry leading pay and benefits starting on day one,” Rachael Lighty, regional manager of external communications for Amazon Operations, told FOX8.

In July, Amazon signed a lease with Atlanta real-estate developer HPC Seefried for a site off Old Greensboro Road in Guilford County.

Neither Amazon nor the developer had commented on the facility until Wednesday.

Landscaping and construction have been going on since August.

Amazon released the following statement Wednesday:

“Amazon is proud to call North Carolina home and to be able to serve customers throughout North Carolina and surrounding states. The company currently operates two fulfillment centers in Charlotte and Kannapolis, which has created more than 3,000 full-time jobs across the state, with industry leading pay and benefits starting on day one. The company will launch a new fulfillment center in Charlotte in 2019, and two new fulfillment centers in Garner and Kernersville in 2020.”
