MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – A Yadkin County-based immigrant-advocacy group took to the streets of Mocksville on Saturday, demanding equal rights for gays and undocumented immigrants.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported that about two dozen members of El Cambio and other supporters participated in a march along Mocksville’s main street.
The group is a Yadkin County-based immigrant-advocacy group with chapters in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Surry County.
Members said they chose Davie County due to its perceived conservatism from the November elections.
“A lot of our members that live here feel it is a very oppressive environment,” said Moises Serrano, an undocumented immigrant who was born in Mexico, but grew up in Yadkin County.
