Lanes reopen after accident closes westbound I-40 in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- A vehicle accident closed all lanes of westbound I-40 in Forsyth County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the road is now open as of 6:12 p.m.

The accident happened near exit 195/N.C. 109.

According to the Highway Patrol, a car ran off the roadway and hit the support of a directional sign just after 3 p.m., knocking the sign into the roadway.

Cheryl Yates, of Lexington, the driver of the car, was not seriously injured but was taken to a hospital, law enforcement officials said.
