Fatal accident closes portion of Summit Avenue in Greenbsoro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A fatal vehicle accident has caused the northbound lanes of Summit Avenue between Fourth Street and Textile Drive to close.

The collision involved a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice which was traveling north on Summit Avenue. The operator lost control of the vehicle and collided with a parked vehicle.

The operator was identified as Samuel Timmons, Jr., 68, of Greensboro. He was transported to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment where he was pronounced dead.

Motorists are asked to utilize alternate routes and exercise caution in the area during this time.

The collision is currently being investigated by the Greensboro Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit.
