BALSAM LAKE, Wisc. — A Wisconsin mom and her boyfriend are facing charges after the woman’s 9-year-old daughter drove them home so they could avoid a DWI.
Amanda Eggert and Jason Roth pleaded not guilty Friday to felony charges including neglect and second-degree endangering safety, according to KMSP.

KMSP reported that the two were arrested about a week ago after authorities received reports of a pickup truck driving erratically on several rural roads in Wisconsin.
When police caught up with the pickup, the 9-year-old driver had already pulled into a public boat launch area.
Deputy Jeff Hahn said in court that he was shocked when he realized a 9-year-old was driving and an 11-month-old was in the back seat.
“As the 9-year-old exited the truck, it was still running and in drive when Mr. Roth was sitting in the truck by himself,” Hahn testified in court, according to KMSP. “He turned the ignition off and the truck began rolling backward down the hill towards the river. I jumped into the truck to hit the brakes and put the truck in park.”
Hahn testified that both adults were highly intoxicated at the time. Roth blew a .25, which is more than three times the legal limit.
Both of the children are now staying with extended family.
