MICHIGAN — When 8-year-old Cayden Taipalus witnessed his friend being refused a hot lunch at school due to lack of funds in his account, he decided to do something about it.
According to WXYZ, the third grader at Challenger Elementary began collecting donations and taking bottles back to help pay off school lunch debt for some of the students at his school.
The Howell school district’s policy is to offer students an alternative lunch of sandwiches when their accounts reach a balance of negative $5.
Cayden said he just wanted to help kids have a better lunch.
Last Monday, he handed over the fruits of his labor: $64, which paid for around 150 lunches.
