SALISBURY, N.C. — An 8-year-old boy has died after falling through an icy pond at a Rowan County park on Sunday afternoon, according to WBTV.

The identity of the victim has not been released. Authorities said three boys were playing at Hurley Park in Salisbury and one walked out onto the pond and the ice broke.

Officials said the young boy was underwater for about 10 minutes before firefighters pulled him out, according to WBTV.

Officials were called to the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m. The boy was taken to the hospital and died shortly after 4 p.m., according to the station.
