STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers are investigating an accident that killed a 33-year-old woman early Sunday morning in King.

According to 1st Sgt. Kevin Barker, Jennifer Nieberle, 33, of King, was walking on Edwards Farm Road around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Jacob Nunn, 19, of King.

According to troopers, Nunn was driving a 2001 Chevy S-10 truck to a friends house when he thought he hit a deer.

An hour later, Nunn drove back to the scene of the accident where he found Nieberle’s body on the side of the road.

The victim’s mother told troopers that her daughter often went for late night walks along the road.

Nieberle died on her birthday.

Nunn faces DWI charges as well as “provisional license” charges because he is under the legal drinking age. The Stokes County District Attorney’s office is considering additional charges pending an investigation.

An autopsy is being performed to see if Nieberle had any substances in her body.

An investigation is ongoing.
