DES MOINES, Iowa — Just weeks from Halloween, an Iowa man says someone took off with his Darth Vader costume, according to WHO.

This is no ordinary costume. Dave Mondo says he spent $3,000 on the outfit and it is screen accurate.

Mondo says the costume was taken from his car at 11th and Johnson Street, near Blank Park Zoo Sunday morning.

Mondo is a member of the 501st Legion, which is a big Star Wars costume club. He says he actually wears his Vader costume year-round for charity events.

“Things happen and people make mistakes, and we aren’t really concerned about it, if we can get the costume back there will be no questions asked and it would really help us out because we put a lot of smiles on a lot of kids faces using these costumes and do a lot of good for the community in fundraising, and to not have it is going to really hurt us in our efforts,” says Mondo.

Mondo has filed a report with Des Moines police but they have not made any arrests.
