THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Police have charged three people in connection with a Thomasville purse snatching in which a 79-year-old woman was pepper-sprayed.

Jennifer Bennett, 29, Shelley Sessom, 31, both of Thomasville, and William Thomas Welch, 45, of Reidsville, are all charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

According to Thomasville police, Bennett and Sessom pepper-sprayed the elderly woman and stole her purse around 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 at the Southgate Shopping Center on Randolph Street. Police allege Welch also played a role in the robbery.

Bennett and Sessom had already been arrested on unrelated warrants issued by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. The pair were charged Thursday, while Welch was arrested Friday, police said.
