2-year-old Rockingham boy killed walking across street to church dinner

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — A 2-year-old Rockingham boy was struck and killed by a motorcycle Saturday night as he and his family was walking across the street to a church dinner.

Police said Wyatt Lohman was crossing Midway Road around 5:54 p.m. when a motorcycle struck the boy near Shaw Street.

According to WSOC, the driver of the motorcycle, Brandon Deese, fell off the motorcycle after the initial impact.

The boy was taken to First Health Richman Memorial Hospital where he died.

“This is a terrible tragedy and my thoughts and prayers as well as the thoughts and prayers of the officers of the Rockingham Police Department are with the family,” said Chief Bill Kelly.

Deese was taken to Sandhills Regional Hospital. His condition has not been released.

Rockingham police are still investigating what caused the accident.
