PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida toddler is dead after he accidentally shot himself Wednesday afternoon.
According to WPTV, the toddler found a loaded handgun in the glove compartment of the family car. Officials say he pointed the gun at his chest and pulled the trigger when no one was looking.
The Pinellas County sheriff said the boy’s father, Kevin Ahles, put his 2-year-old son, Kaleb, in the car as the family was preparing to move to Hernando County.
As other family members helped with the move, the toddler found the .380 caliber handgun in the glove box.
Kaleb’s mother and aunt tried to save the boy by performing CPR.
Paramedics continued to try to save the boy on the way to Trinity Hospital but he did not survive.
No charges against the boy’s father are expected, the sheriff said.
