DES MOINES, Iowa — Scott Michael Greene, 46, of Urbandale, Iowa, is being sought in connection with Wednesday morning's shooting deaths of two police officers in central Iowa, the Des Moines and Urbandale police departments say.

"Greene is believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous. If seen, please do not approach Greene, but call 911 and report his location," police said in a news release.

WOI reports officers responded to a report of shots fired around 1:06 a.m. and discovered one wounded officer. About 25 minutes later, officers responded to another call and found an additional officer who had been shot about two blocks away.

Both officers died from their injuries.

In a press release, police described the shootings as being “ambush-style attacks.” A statewide manhunt has been launched to find the suspect or suspects.

“There’s clearly a danger if you’re a police officer. These guys were sitting in their cars doing nothing wrong,” said Des Moines Sgt. Paul Parizek during a 6 a.m. news conference. “There’s somebody out there shooting police officers. We hope to find him before anyone else gets hurt.”

The investigation is ongoing.
