BURLINGTON, N.C. — Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Burlington on Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:44 p.m. Tuesday, personnel from the Burlington fire and police departments and Alamance County EMS responded to South Church Street at St. Marks Church Road in reference to a crash.

The investigation revealed that Cary Lex Safrit, 19, of Greensboro, was traveling west on South Church Street in a 2007 Kia in the left turn lane and Macy Michelle Pettigrew, 18, of Gibsonville, was traveling east on South Church Street in a 1994 Isuzu Trooper.

Police said Safrit failed to yield the right of way to Pettigrew when he attempted to turn left onto St. Marks Church Road and his vehicle collided with Pettigrew’s vehicle.

Pettigrew’s vehicle continued forward and struck a 2008 Honda Civic driven by Fallon Anitra Jones, 28, of Burlington, that was stopped on St. Marks Church Road at South Church Street facing north, police said.

Safrit was transported to the helipad at Alamance Regional Medical Center by Alamance County EMS, where he was transported by Air Care to UNC Hospital. Jones was transported to ARMC by Alamance County EMS with minor injuries.

At this time, no charges have been filed.
