11-year-old girl dies after crash in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – An 11-year-old girl was thrown out of a van and died after a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Greensboro.

Police were called to the scene at Interstate 40 East near Sandy Ridge Road at 4:41 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Greensboro police said the crash involved a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 34-year-old man and a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by a 48-year-old man.

Police said both vehicles were headed east on Interstate 40. The Caravan ran off the roadway to the right and rolled over numerous times as a result of the crash, according to police.

Police said impairment did not contribute to this crash. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 24th fatal motor vehicle crash of this year for Greensboro, according to police.
