Homeowner killed in Guilford County robbery; suspects armed, on the run

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- Two suspects are on the run following a robbery and shooting just outside the city limits of High Point.

Authorities responded to 1603 E. Fairfield Road in reference to a robbery.

Sheriff's deputies say 57-year-old Vann Yates, of the residence, was shot during the robbery. Yates was transported to High Point Regional Hospital and later to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Both suspects are armed with handguns, according to Guilford County Sheriff's Office Col. Randy Powers.

A witness reported two black males were involved.  One was reported to be 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build, dark complexion, in his early to mid-30s, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes. This subject was reported to have a scar under his right eye.

The second subject was approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build, dark complexion, in his early to mid-30s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.
