1 killed in crash on Fisher Ferry Street in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — One person was killed in a crash in Thomasville on Thursday afternoon, according to Sgt. John Elgin, with Thomasville police.

The crash was reported at 3:11 p.m. in the 400 block of Fisher Ferry Street.

Shawnesty Roshell Powers, 22, of Walnut Cove, was driving a 2007 Pontiac Torrent and hit a utility pole.

Powers died from injuries sustained in the crash.

A front seat passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and the passenger was wearing one, according to Elgin.

It is unclear what caused Powers to run off the road and hit the utility pole.
