THOMASVILLE, N.C. — An elderly woman died in an apartment fire in Thomasville Friday afternoon, according to Capt. Eddie Bowling with Thomasville fire.

At 12:25 p.m., Davidson County 911 received an emergency call for an apartment fire with a possible victim inside.

The Thomasville Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Church Street.

Upon arrival, units determined four apartments in an eight-unit apartment complex were on fire.

The victim was located inside and Bowling said the victim’s name will not be released until family members are notified.

“When I looked at the building, I just saw smoke coming out,” said neighbor Brittany Wilson. “I saw people out there waving like, ‘Somebody’s inside, somebody’s inside. Get everybody out,’” Wilson said.

The fire was brought under control at 12:50 p.m., Bowling said.

“We want to extend our prayers and thoughts to the family at this time,” Bowling said. “This is a difficult situation for anybody to have to deal with.”
