Simple pumpkin recipes for the fall

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — It’s Pumpkin time here in the Piedmont Triad and we making all things pumpkin at Dewey’s Bakery in Winston-Salem.

On this Recipe Wednesday, bakers show us how to create some sweet and savory pumpkin dishes.


  • 1 1/2 cups of canned or roasted pumpkin
  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • 1 clove of roasted garlic
  • 3 teaspoons of oil
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  • Put the pumpkin, chickpeas, garlic, oil, lemon juice, and water in a food processor and blend until smooth
  • Blend in paprika, cumin, and cinnamon
  • Add salt and pepper to taste and more water if desiring a smoother dip
  • Pour into a bowl and add two teaspoons of oil and sprinkle paprika on top
  • Can be served with Dewey’s cheese straws, our party size butter biscuits, or chips
