EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A dog named Boogie became an Internet sensation after he crashed a half marathon in Indiana and received a medal after he crossed the finish line ahead of several other runners.

The chocolate Labrador retriever ran the majority of the 13.1 miles in the event on Saturday. He finished in 2 hours and 15 minutes, a time better than nearly half of the race participants.

However, when Boogie finished, race officials were unable to find his owner. He was taken to Animal Control where his owner, Jerry Butts, claimed him later that day.

Butts told the Evansville Courier & Press the 100-pound dog slipped his leash on Friday. This was Boogie’s fourth escape.

Butts said Boogie now has a microchip and an appointment to be neutered.

Kim Arney, who ran with Boogie for the final three miles of the race, presented Boogie with his participant medal after the race.
