Christmas is a time to spend with loved ones. But some people, especially the elderly, may not be able to get out to visit others.

So, Home Instead Senior Care has teamed up with area retailers and non-profit agencies to sponsor “Be a Santa to a Senior,” a program that collects, wraps and delivers gifts to lonely and needy seniors in the Piedmont Triad area.

The program runs from November 12 to December 16.

Older adults who can’t get out submit an “ornament” on a tree in area drugstores, volunteers chose an ornament, buy what’s on the list, and return it to the store.

Gifts are usually things like lotion, socks, and blankets — things they can’t get out to buy themselves.

FOX8 will share more about the program during the 8 a.m. morning news Wednesday.
