WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Once the creative and gutsy Mary Haglund decides to go for something, it's on.
"Once I'm in, I'm a yes, big time," Mary of the beloved Mary's Gourmet Diner said with a smile. "I had this stirring in my heart for a while. I'm in my 60s now. I feel called to help inspire and empower other women. I've had lots of life experiences, ups and down, and I believe by sharing stories and connecting, we can change the world."
Mary created Mary's Mavens, a business group of sorts for creatives and small business owners back in January.
"We kind of just put this random thing on Facebook about the first meeting at The Olio at 8:30 in the morning. 60 women showed up. It was mind blowing, just jam-packed. There is clearly a need and a desire for this and for me, it's life-changing, and I never want cost to be a factor of anything. It will always be free," she said.
In just five meetings, one a month, the group's Facebook group has more than 500 members.
