CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — If you’re going to save thousands of animals, it helps to be able to speak to them as Dr. Doolittle did. But that difficult work can be more like what St. Francis of Assisi did 800 years ago.

Bob Buckley reports on Siglinda Scarpa, a woman from St. Francis’ home country who is living out his legacy today through The Goat House Refuge.

Siglinda raises $20,000 each month to keep the refuge going. To help with expenses, she will be hosting a fundraiser on May 19 in which she will cook and sell her favorite recipes from her upbringing in Italy.
