    CANDOR, N.C. – The North Carolina Highway Patrol says an icy bridge on Interstate 73 in Montgomery County is the cause of a wreck that killed a 44-year-old woman and left her elderly parents in critical condition.   • Crews respond to grass fire reported on Business 85 in Guilford County

    GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Pinecroft-Sedgefield and High Point fire departments made short work of a grass and woods fire along Business 85 this afternoon. The fire was reported to Guilford Metro 911 at 3:39 and was reported out at 4:15 p.m. No injuries were reported. The fire stretched along the side of the road from Riverdale Drive near Furnitureland South for about a half a mile toward the Kivett Drive interchange.

    High Point police and fire dispatchers along with Randolph County 911 report that they have received numerous calls from concerned residents about a strong smell of natural gas Monday evening. The odors are being reported in an area stretching from Sophia in Randolph County, through the Archdale area and as far north as the Oak Hollow area of High Point.   • Train derails in Randleman, several intersections blocked

    RANDLEMAN, N.C. — A derailed train is blocking a number of intersections in Randleman after a number of train cars went off the tracks. Dispatchers with Randolph County Communications tells us that there were no injuries when the derailment happened earlier this afternoon. Among the roads blocked by the train cars is U.S. 311 between Interstate 73 and Business 220 in Randleman. There is no estimate when the roads will be reopened.

    WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem City Council has approved a new spending plan that is aimed at adding and retaining city workers.     BURLINGTON, N.C. – Two women were walking eastbound in the roadway on Plantation Drive in Burlington when they were struck by a car traveling westbound on the same road.
