Elijah Skipper is a multimedia journalist and storyteller at FOX8 WGHP. He joined the station in March 2021 during his senior year at UNC Greensboro as a news photojournalist, recording video and editing stories. Elijah’s passion for storytelling eventually led him to start writing his own stories, and, in March 2023, he transitioned to his current role as a multimedia journalist.
Born and raised in the Piedmont Triad, Elijah is proud to call this community his home. As a child, he would wake up each morning to watch his favorite segments on FOX8 WGHP, which were the Buckley Report and Roy’s Folks. Now, Elijah is excited to be a part of the FOX8 team and to report on the stories that matter most in the very same community he grew up in.
Elijah earned a bachelor’s degree in media studies with minors in history and American Sign Language from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2021. During his college years, he hosted his own radio show on the school’s radio station, WUAG 103.1, aptly named “The Skipper Show.”
While Elijah’s primary focus is on news reporting, he also enjoys covering sports, particularly high school football. As a photojournalist, he had the opportunity to cover local high school football games and even the Carolina Panthers a few times.
Outside of work, Elijah loves exploring the great outdoors with his dog Yukon, whether it’s hiking and camping in the mountains or relaxing by the beach. He’s a dedicated sports fan and follows local high school football and his UNCG Spartans. Elijah is also a passionate Star Wars enthusiast and considers himself the biggest fan of the franchise at FOX8. With a strong passion for storytelling and a deep dedication to his craft, Elijah continues to grow and develop as a journalist.
