HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A standoff on Braddock Road in High Point is still going on.

Authorities tell FOX8 a deputy was attempting to serve some civil papers to someone who lives at the home, which is located in the 4000 block of Braddock Road, around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

After a "short physical struggle" between the deputy and a man inside the home, the man retreated inside and barricaded himself in the home. Negotiators have been trying to get the man to come out ever since.

“The absolutely last thing we want to do is try to force anything or rush anything and end up in someone getting hurt,” said Brian Hall. a Captain with Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.

The man has fired multiple gunshots inside the home, deputies said.

“We’ve been trying to reach out to some family members and trying to get some of them to talk with him. He’s been a little forthcoming with conversation but it’s not consistent. He’ll do it for a little while and disappear on us," Hall said.

Nearby homes have been evacuated. People who live in the area are asked to stay away at this time.

“I know folks are tired of not being able to get to their house. I just want to say I appreciate your patience,” Hall said.
