GREENSBORO, N.C. — Practice makes perfect and that’s the goal of tonight’s rehearsal. The people practicing belong to one of the 10 non-profits competing for a $20,000 grand prize.

Event organizer and Future Fund Program Organizer Jodee Ruppel describes the event as Shark Tank meets non-profit.

“They are literally and figuratively getting a stage to talk about their mission and their passion,” Ruppel said. “We want to invest in those no- profits that are doing innovative things that are getting at the heart of the problems in our community and the heart of the issues to make them better."

Each non-profit will get to make a three-minute pitch, which they’ve been practicing with volunteer coaches. The big event is called Future Fund 10 Live! and members of the Future Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, planned and produced it.

“It`s a group of young professionals, ages 20 to late 40s, who are really working together to make Greensboro better,” said Shamira Azlan, a young entrepreneur and funder of Future Fund. “We`re investing our time, our energy, our money into this initiative that will really change Greensboro.”

Funders invest $150 each year and can have as much or as little involvement throughout the year in events like Future Fund 10 Live!

“I wanted to be part of something that wasn`t just about me, and that`s what Future Fund allows you to do,” Azlan said. “You know that you`re contributing to a bigger pot that`s going to go to the community which is a really great feeling.”
