Man dies after crash on I-85 South in Davidson County

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A man died after a crash on Interstate 85 Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews and AirCare responded the scene at about 2:36 p.m.

A driver in the southbound lanes went off the road to the right and struck a bridge support shortly before the South Davidson County Rest Area.

Steven Disher, 55, of Thomasville, was airlifted from the scene to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, but later died, according to Highway Patrol.

No other injuries were reported. It is unclear what caused the driver to run off the road.
