Body found in Lake Reece in Asheboro

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Authorities in Randolph County are investigating after a man’s body found in the Uwharrie River on Tuesday.

The man's body was found in Lake Reece near the US Hwy. 64 Bridge right off the property of AMR Used Cars.

Neighbors told FOX8 they saw the man by the bridge much of the day working on his moped, talking to people and “enjoying the day.”

A deputy even pulled up next to him to make sure he was alright. Sometime later — the man was in the river, but the moped was on the bridge.

People nearby say they think the situation is strange.

“It could have been a freak accident, ‘ya never know,” said Gary Dillard, owner of AMR Used Cars. “The gentleman across the street on the moped was walking around. Detectives pulled up and asked him if he’s okay. And he said yes.”

Investigators say they’re trying to put together the pieces of what happened — if he fell or was pushed — or if it was intentional.
