GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Lily Elkes has a love for the arts.

She's a fifth-grader at Simkins Elementary School in Greensboro. She's on top of her academics and involved in a number of programs.

Her mother encourages this future professional actress to try new things. The message, mom says, is universal.

"Learn as much as you can, don't stay in one particular spot, don't hide, get out here and do things," she says.
