Police officer crashes into building in downtown High Point after mistaking gas for brake

HIGH POINT, N.C. – A police officer crashed into a building in downtown High Point on Saturday after accidentally hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake.

It happened Saturday afternoon near the intersection of East Commerce Avenue and South Wrenn Street. Nobody was hurt.

The officer was moving the patrol car to let construction equipment through when the accident happened, according to police.

The building that was hit was a Lexington Home Brands design studio. The building and some furniture inside were damaged.

There is no current word on any charges against the driver.
