Pedestrian struck by police officer’s patrol vehicle in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police are investigating after a Winston-Salem police officer was involved in a crash with a pedestrian Sunday evening, according to a news release.

At about 7:49 p.m., officer D. A. Fanning was traveling south in the 4400 block of Ogburn Avenue and Felicia Avery was walking south alongside the fog line in the same area when the door mirror of Fanning’s patrol car struck Avery’s arm.

She was taken to North Carolina Baptist Medical Center for treatment and later released.

Fanning is a 9-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing.
