ELON, N.C. – An Elon University student may have to undergo an amputation after a train ran over his foot, according to the Burlington Times-News.

Police told the paper that it happened as the 21-year-old student from New Jersey tried to cross between two train cars of a stopped train.

The train rolled over his left foot and Alamance County emergency workers took him to Moses Cone Hospital.

Elon police said an officer was called to the incident at about 12:13 a.m. Saturday at the railroad tracks at Lee and Lebanon avenues.

Police told the paper that the victim may have been under the influence at the time. An open can of beer was reportedly found at the scene. Officials will evaluate whether or not he’ll face trespassing charges.
