North Carolina police officer injured, suspect dead in shooting

LELAND, N.C. – A North Carolina police officer was injured and a suspect killed in a shooting, according to WECT.

Jacob Schwenk, of the Leland Police Department, was injured in a shooting Friday that resulted in the death of Brent Quinn.

Officers responded to reports of a suspicious person shortly before 9 p.m. Friday in connection to the incident.

The officer was shot several times in the leg and the suspect was killed. The specific circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been released.

Schwenk was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated. His bulletproof vest is credited with playing a part in saving his life.

The officer’s injuries are described as non-life-threatening. The shooting investigation is ongoing.
