WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Three cars have wrecked on Peters Creek Parkway, two of which overturned, after a water main break caused icy conditions Friday night.
Peters Creek Parkway has been shut down at Link Road for the rest of the night and early morning, Winston-Salem police said in a news release at 10 p.m.
The break happened earlier in the day near Mr. Barbecue, which is located at 1381 Peters Creek Parkway.
The water ran across the roadway and began to freeze when temperatures dipped below freezing Friday evening.
City utility crews are shutting off the water to begin working on the water main as of just before 10 p.m. Crews left the water on throughout much of the evening because the line supplied water to restaurants in the area.
The city is coordinating salt trucks in an attempt to prevent the water from freezing.
Crews will continue to salt the road and begin repairs. The repairs are expected to take until about 6 a.m.
