GREENSBORO, N.C. — Detectives believe that robbery is the motive for a fatal shooting at 2 Hilton Place last night that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Timothy Amellio Bennett, according to a news release from Greensboro police.

When police responded to the Park Place Apartments at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday, they found Bennett, of Greensboro, lying on an outside stairwell with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was transported to Moses Cone Hospital and succumbed to his wounds at approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting occurred in an apartment following a robbery and an altercation among multiple people who were in the residence.

Two people involved in the dispute sustained injuries that required medical attention.

Detectives have interviewed witnesses and the person who fired the weapon at Bennett.

Police are not looking for other potential subjects, the release said. No arrests have been made at this time.
