Trains collide, derail in Florida
CITRA, Fla. — Two trains collided and derailed in Marion County early Wednesday, causing 20 cars to overturn and leak fuel, WOFL reported.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies, Marion County Fire Rescue and CSX are investigating the crash.
Two CSX crew members are being treated for minor injuries. No word on any other injuries.
According to CSX officials, a CSX train transporting non-hazardous materials collided with a second CSX train loaded with coal. The incident happened at about 4:15 a.m. “Initial reports indicate that diesel fuel has been released from one or more of the locomotives,” according to a CSX statement.
The phosphate train was traveling from Florida to Chicago with three locomotives and 100 loaded phosphate cars. The coal train was traveling from Kentucky to Tampa with three locomotives and 100 loaded cars of coal.
