HENRY COUNTY, Va. — An Eden man is dead after he was shot and killed when he broke into a home in Martinsville, Virginia, according to a news release.

Michael Deangelo Graves, 28, and his brother, Charles Rydell Flood, Jr., drove to the house on Stoney Mountain Road. Upon arrival, deputies say Graves forced his way into the home and was shot in the chest during a confrontation with 29-year-old Markus Ugene Lampkins.

After being shot, Graves retreated outside and Flood took him to Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

After an investigation, officials say Lampkins shot Graves in an act of self-defense.

Lampkins was charged with possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony and has been jailed without bond.

There are no pending charges in the case.
