BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Burlington police are investigating shots fired at multiple apartments. Neighbors called police to the Park Side Apartments after 7 p.m. on Tuesday. There, police found one unit covered in bullet holes and another with minor damage. No one was injured.

”This was not a random act," said Kevin King, a detective at the Burlington Police Department. "They had a specific target in mind and went after that target.”

While at the scene, they learned of another location near 700 Maple St. that someone shot at earlier in the day. The suspected target has ties to both locations. Currently, police say they do not have any leads so they are hoping people come forward with information.

“There is no telling when something like this is going to happen or what innocent people will be at the scene at the time," King said.

John Wayne Hershellowery lives on Maple Street. In the last year, he says he has heard between 60 to 70 gunshots near one of the apartments targeted.

“A stray bullet knows no line," Hershellowery said.

Police will be looking into the background of the person they believe was the target to see if they can figure out who might have wanted to do this. Burlington police are asking anyone with information on these shooting to contact them directly at (336) 229-3500 or Alamance County-Wide Crime stoppers at (336) 229-7100.
