GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tucked behind Whole Foods Market on West Friendly Avenue is a new pizza restaurant fittingly named Pieology.

The pizza shop, which is set to open Thursday at 11 a.m., will give away free pizzas for a year to the first 100 people who purchase a pizza and join the restaurant’s email club. Winners will receive a free pie each week for a year.

“Tomorrow, our first 100 guests have the opportunity to receive pizza for a year,” said General Manager Sach Raikar. “We’re giving away 5,200 pizzas, so it’s basically a pizza card every week. This will be the third time we’ve done this at a Pieology opening and it’s gotten great feedback.”

Pieology offers customers a plethora of meats, vegetables, sauces and crusts to suit each pizza lover’s need.

The restaurant’s signature 11 and a half-inch custom stone-fired pizzas with house-made dough provide buyers a choice of eight signature sauces and 40 toppings, including a gluten-free crust.

Even though the franchise is still relatively unknown in the Piedmont Triad area, Raikar hopes promotional deals such as Thursday’s free pizzas will get people excited and interested in what the restaurant has to offer.

“Not a lot of people know about Pieology,” Raikar said. “We are really trying to get our name out there. It’s healthy eating at a great price. So it’s important we stand out.

Right now, Segovia Aslan Enterprises has two Pieology restaurants in Raleigh, so Greensboro becomes the company’s third in North Carolina. They plan to open eight other locations in the Southeast by the end of the year.
