At least 7 injured in Colonial Pipeline explosion in Alabama

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. -- Multiple people were injured in a gas line explosion in Alabama on Monday, according to

Seven people were severely burned in the accident.

Eight or nine subcontractors were working on the Colonial gas pipeline when it exploded, Shelby County sheriff's Maj. Ken Burchfield confirmed to Colonial has now shut down both pipelines running through the area.

The subcontractors were attempting to flush out the lines. When they started to dig, that is when the explosion happened.

In addition to the injured victims, there's a possibility that two workers are still missing, reports.

This explosion is about five miles west from a recent Colonial Pipeline gasoline leak.
