WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A fire at a Winston-Salem apartment building prompted an evacuation and displaced a resident.

The fire started at about 6:45 p.m. at Sunrise Towers, located at 801 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, according to Winston-Salem emergency dispatch.

Unattended food on a stove in an apartment kitchen started the fire, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

The fire was contained to one apartment on the eighth floor.

The eighth and ninth floors of the building were evacuated, the Journal reported.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital, dispatch said.

One resident was displaced. It is unclear if the displaced resident is the same resident who was taken to the hospital.

The fire is now out.

The 11-story building contains 195 apartments, several residents told the Journal.
