WASHINGTON -- Hallway surveillance video caught a parent punch a 7-year-old student in the stomach last Wednesday.

In the video, a parent was walking through the halls of a Washington-area charter school at about 8:30 a.m. when he leaned over and punched the boy. The boy, identified as John, held his stomach and slowly dropped to the ground in pain.

The kid's mother, Lena McLean said he came home and told her he was assaulted by a schoolmate's parent, according to WJLA. That's when she requested the hallway surveillance video.

McLean said she has had positive interactions with the man in the past, so she doesn't understand why he'd punch her son.

“You don’t bully a child, you don’t torment a child. I wouldn’t do that to you. I wouldn’t do that to none of your kids,” she said. “I’ll feel much better when he is locked up.”

In a letter to parents, the school's spokesperson said they would continue to investigation the incident.
