WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Two tractor-trailers collided head-on on U.S. 421 in Winston-Salem Wednesday night.

The crash, which occurred at 6:57 p.m. in the northbound lanes near the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive exit, left the ramp closed for about three and a half hours.

Officers say an unoccupied tractor-trailer left its parked position in the 1300 block of East First Street, crossed Martin Luther King Junior Drive and continued to speed down an embankment toward U.S. 421 North. The vehicle then entered the highway and collided with another tractor-trailer that was traveling in the right lane.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as Douglas Drew Propst, was taken to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
