BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The look on Kaydence Dunn’s face said it all, as a dozen police and sheriff's cruisers pulled over, filling up the road in front of her house.

The 8-year-old sent out a letter to local law enforcement with an invitation to her 9th birthday party in Burlington. Her jaw dropped when she saw the turnout.

From that moment on it was excitement and a never ending stream of thanks from the birthday girl. She got an opportunity to hop in the front seat, turn on the siren and let her imagination soar. Her eyes lit up when a K-9 came out to play as well.

"'Cause all the bad things are going on in Charlotte, I want to be a police officer when I grow up,” Kaydence said.

Her parents have always said Kadence has had a deep respect for law enforcement at such a young age.

"That's just what she wants,” her stepmother Patricia said. "She wants to be able to bring the police an community together and show them the good in them."

The Alamance County Sheriff's Office and the Burlington Police Department thanked her for the support with cards signed by every member of the department, and her smile couldn’t have been bigger, especially learning she would participate in a ride along with the sheriffs department as part of her gift.

And as deputies drove off, they knew this wouldn’t be the last time they saw their new spunky recruit.
