ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities are searching for a 17-year-old inmate who escaped from custody while being transported from the Rockingham County Jail Friday morning.

Micah Keishaun Cameron, 17, was being taken from the Rockingham County Jail to the Orange County Detention Facility when he jumped from a moving transport vehicle, according to WTVD.

Rockingham County officials say the man was already in the care of the Orange County Detention Facility when the escape occurred.

At the time of his escape, officials say Cameron was restrained with handcuffs, leg irons, and a belly chain. He was last seen wearing a red two-piece inmate jumpsuit with “Rockingham” on the back in black letters.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office issued a reverse 911 call to residents in the area.

Cameron is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony probation.

The investigation is ongoing.
